Laugh Tactics is wonderful because it calls out comedy and being funny for what it is, which is just patterns, structures, and a different way of thinking about things.The author gives some great examples, but the best is simply, if someone asks you how the weather is, you can choose to answer literally, or you can choose to answer in a variety of other ways... because people don't really care about that answer. It's just information they can look up, but this is a chance to engage and make people laugh that we are all not paying attention to! So many times this happens in daily work and life that we don't notice it...
But that's what Laugh Tactics is a great introduction for. It shows you those small ways you can be funnier, day by day, and not in a cheesy way. I don't want to be "that guy" when trying to be funny, so this is a great guide.

Diligent attempt but no special insight.
Some basic examples of jokes. Useful starting place to have an idea of the types of jokes you can make in conversation. The examples given of each type are horrendous but they are just examples.
No truly helpful application for how to be funny. More like a scientific analysis of why some people are perceived as funny.
I love how the author analyzes what makes things funny and then proceeds to give a ton of examples to prove his point. Some of the examples are better than others, but that is also because you are simply reading it off of a page and not in the context with a funny delivery.
Great to read about how anticipation and defied expectations were the root of so many of the jokes I find hilarious. The comic triple chapter was gold because I've noticed that before, and it was great to finally understand it. The Jon Stuart example he gives was both hilarious and very educational in breaking it down.
It would have been helpful for him to provide bad examples, like things that aren't funny. But I guess that's not as important as knowing why certain jokes work and why they are funny.
This is great for beginners, and even for advanced people, because it just shows you what is happening behind the curtains of great jokes. 6 stars.
Turns out that becoming an amusing and interesting conversationalist can be learned. Clues, ideas and suggestions of this book can be very helpful if one is not a natural talker. As with any skill, practice is needed but the concepts are clear. Well worth the effort.
This is probably the most boring conversation on "making things funny" possible. The irony is poignant... I don't think there's one legitimately funny example in the entire book, it's filled with what I'd consider "uncle humor." I really wish I hadn't wasted my time on this.
Although I've always considered myself a ‘funny’ and entertaining person, this is the first book I’ve ever come across that teaches you how to be that way in social situations. Patrick King delivers great advice and techniques in ‘Laugh Tactics’ in order help you become funny in a very natural way. If you’ve ever noticed at a party or social event, there is always somebody who is trying too hard to be liked, to hard to be funny or gain attention. This book tones it down so that you don’t come across looking like a fool or desperate to land a good joke. And you can be funny without looking like you’re trying to be funny.

Then the next time you are locked in conversation and looking for a way to communicate better by being even more interesting than you are, fall back on the techniques here and get real results.
